Mechanical & Electrical Engineering
IN2 Engineering is a modern engineering consultancy dedicated to developing innovative and sustainable engineering solutions for a diverse client base.
Formed in 2002, we have since completed numerous successful projects throughout Ireland, working within a wide range of building sectors.
With an Engineering staff of 15 (October 2010) including 6 Chartered Engineers, together with specialist expertise in passive design, sustainability and building simulation techniques, IN2 Engineering has the capabilities and experience to deliver low-energy projects from Conceptual Design, right through to Building Handover

Thermal Analysis
IN2 Engineering has vast experience in using Thermal Analysis to ensure passive design techniques are incorporated into building design. Thermal analysis enables us develop successful natural ventilation strategies by simulating predicted building performance against accurate, historical climatic data.
Thermal Analysis is a useful tool for advising on Building Form, Massing and Orientation, Solar Shading and Fenestration, Window/ Vent opening locations, (sizes and operation). Complex airflow and temperature differentials typical to Atria and Double-Skin Facade technology can be accurately predicted

Airflow Analysis
Airflow analysis is used to verify detailed passive building design. Airflow analysis can be used in wide range of applications, ranging from assessing internal comfort for passive design, to analysing external pressures and airflow patterns around buildings (for pedestrian comfort). Results are presented in a clear graphical manner, using flow visualisation and animation.
Airflow analysis is performed in-house using state-of-the-art Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques. Originally developed for the aeronautical industry as an alternative to wind tunnel testing, this technology is now applied when assessing building performance.

Daylighting Simulations
Good daylighting design in buildings can result in significant energy savings, as well as improving the quality of the internal space. IN2 Engineering simulate daylighting for buildings both externally (typically at Masterplan stage) and internally, by predicting Daylight Factors.
Daylighting is undertaken again using Lighting Simulation tools such as Radiance to advise on optimal glazing arrangements, thus ensuring excellent Daylighting is achieved as a primary building design function.

Internal Lighting Simulations
IN2 Engineering offer a specialist Lighting Design service. Powerful Lighting Simulation tools, such as radiance, are used so that lighting concepts can be developed with the Architect and fine-tuned, long before the spaces are formed.
These simulation tools produce 3D rendered images with accurate light levels ("photometrically based"), taking into account the accurate physics of the luminaire light distribution, lamp colour, glare, etc.
The generated images can indicate both artificial and natural light on the Architect's internal finishes. These images are invaluable when trying to envisage the effect of lighting withing a key space.

External Lighting Simulations
Assessing the impact of external lighting on new developments and their surrounding environment is of increasing importance to planners. Obtrusive Light (or "light pollution") guidelines identify limits of sky glow, light overspill to neighbouring properties and glare nuisance.
IN2 Engineering can accurately determine the impact of External Lighting design on the local environment. Compliance with Best Practice Guidelines associated with Obtrusive Light can be demonstrated using photo realistic images.

Energy Analysis / BER
IN2 Engineering has vast experience in predicting building energy consumption and associated carbon emissions. This analysis accurately predict annual running costs for fuels, as well as identifying the most cost-effective energy savings measures.
In conjunction with energy analysis, IN2 Engineering are accredited BER assessors and are regularly called upon by Architects and Clients to demonstrate how a BER "A" Rating can be achieved for a building.

BREEAM Assessments
IN2 Engineering are leaders in Sustainable design, which is reflected in our BREEAM accreditations for numerous building categories, including Bespoke, Offices, International and Healthcare. BREEAM is an internationally recognised way of measuring the sustainability performance of a Building.
Our assessors, coupled with the experience gained on delivering low Energy buildings, ensures the design is realised in accordance with best-practice International standards for Sustainability.
RIAI Approved CPD Seminars
IN2 Engineering has received RIAI accreditation for our CPD presentation on Part L and BER for non-Domestic buildings. These legislative changes mean that for the first time the energy of buildings is assessed for compliance.
This CPD presentation includes an overview of Part L and BER; it assesses the methodology and provides practical examples of various building improvements (insulation, lighting, photovoltaics, etc) as well as demonstrating how an "A" rated building may be achieved.
The Seminar equates to 1 hour of RIAI Structured CPD. We would be pleased to arrange a presentation at your offices, at a time that suits.
Thermographic Studies
IN2 Engineering have fully trained in-house thermographers for identifying problems in existing buildings. Building thermography can be used to recognise moisture in structures, risk of condensation, air leakage, structural delaminations, voids and buried services. By assessing the variations in the thermal properties of building structures, problems such as poorly fitted or missing sections of insulation can be identified; Highlighting where remedial works would be required to fix these "cold spots".
Graphic images visibly illustrate the distribution of temperature on building surfaces which give clear understanding of the issues to be addressed.
